I went down to Paul's Optical across the street (not Dr. Cohen, the optometrist next door to Paul's, who I'm sure I'll be meeting in a month or so when my I-work-for-a-school benefits take effect -- I'm probably joining the teacher credit union, too) and showed him my busted glasses and asked what to do. He spent about 5 minutes looking through different frames and presented me with a pair of replacement frames that
a) OK, aren't really me, but I'll get used to them (there are spots of teal on the frames) -- with two pairs of glasses, I need to be able to tell them apart when not wearing any at all, and I do it by color;
b) basically fit the existing lenses from my reading glasses, he had to do a tiny bit of reshaping;
c) low cost;
d) and on-site, so I was out the door in less than half an hour.
I've got that adjusting-to-new-glasses feeling even though they're not new prescription, but once I'm done sobbing with joy I'm going to try and write. I'm picking up a neighbor after she has some medical tests this afternoon and escorting her home, so it may be a more-or-less nominal attempt, but, it'll be one.
ETA: watched the film "The Machinist" this morning. My mind is boggled.
