White,
On the branch,
Trembling cold
Cut by the sparrow
Alighting.
Feathered fanfare
and weight
Lay bare brown arms
Yearning for sun.

Amongst velvet-cake buildings topped in white frosting,
While the trees flaunt nature's winter decoration,
Comes the spectacle sound of carolers practicing
And shovelers cursing.
