15 Books Meme
You're not supposed to think too long or too hard on this one. List 15 books you've read that will always stick with you -- list the first 15 you can recall in 15 minutes. Don't take too long to think about it. Then tag 15 friends and see if they write their own lists (part of the challenge is to think about which 15 friends would have the weirdest or most interesting book list).
Whoever wants to be tagged, can be. This was a difficult exercise because a) I have little memory of my childhood, so there are ideas that have stayed with and shaped me but, I guess, quite a few books that haven't; b) if I had done a non-fiction-only and a fiction-only version of these lists, I think things would come out very differently; c) I've gone through so many iterations of Sidra so far, books that stay with me now are sometimes merely fond family friends and nothing more, momentos of my life; d) I've read one book this year ("Founding Brothers") that may always stick with me, but it's only been a couple months and seems arrogant to put it on the list at this point. Anyway. Interesting.
Here's my 15:
Watership Down
The Stars My Destination
Friday, by R.A. Heinlein
Lord of the Flies
Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit
The Prophet, by Khalil Gibran
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Illusions, by Richard Bach
Atlas Shrugged
the Hornblower books
The Nero Wolfe books
Women on Fire, by idairsauthor (for being generally excellent, yes, but I will carry her books with me for articulating the fact that sometimes you can either go after the bad guy, or help the victim, but not always both)
Kaavik the Wolf Dog
The Lathe of Heaven
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
