The usual book-near-you meme. From [livejournal.com profile] cirrocoj

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

OK, the exception I generally make is that dictionaries don't count as books. Generally. So, Black's Law Dictionary: no. The Federal Rules of Evidence (Lexis pamphlet, right next to Black's and therefore just a fingertip away) does not have 123 pages or even close to that number. So, I opted for books within arms reach, and the closest of those produced:

"The risk that a passenger on such a plane might observe private activities, and might connect those activities with particular people, is simply too trivial to protect against."

Supreme Court Justice Powell, dissenting, discussing the Katz "search" standard as applied in California v. Ciraolo, 476 U.S. 207, 223-224 (1986).

From Criminal Procedure: Investigating Crime, by Joshua Dressler and George C. Thomas III (West 2005).
