Reading Sidra (meme)
Jan. 20th, 2006 08:15 pmTen ways to tell you're reading a story by me (a meme lifted from
newroticgirl)
1) Interesting first lines. None of this "it was hot" business. (Unless quickly followed by ", so hot the Zamfir statue in the courtyard looked like it was going to melt.")
2) Minimalist descriptions.
3) Poetry (not quoted poetry, just...poetry)
4) First person is rarely to be found.
5) Throwaway background. Remember the bit in Buckaroo Banzai with the watermelon? Me, too.
6) People in the story who have nothing to do with advancing the story. This is related to #5.
7) Black comedy. Or, funny things and bad things in the same story.
8) The MC is female and that's not the point.
9) Short people. Because the world needs more of us.
10) Sea or sailing related metaphors.
