sidravitale: the_dibbler's Labyrinth 'goblin in hat' LJ icon (goblin in hat)
I was thinking about why men hate themselves so much, particularly why men hate gay men [*], and it occurred to me that men aren't allowed to love (only screw), they're only allowed to receive love, and if they love another man, they're actively loving instead of receiving love (worship, natch, from a woman, who is lower in status).

So...basically, loving someone is a weakness, ergo, strong-silent-type who never expresses love to his (woman) partner is the American ideal,

Weird. Not sure what I think about this men-as-object paradigm I've just articulated, but, there you have it. Emotionality is weakness, love is an emotion, to act on love is therefore to become weak and vulnerable. Like a woman. (I mean, think about it, all the revenge for the death/attack on a loved one flicks are about a man avenging the destruction of his property. It's not an act of love, it's an act of dominance.)

Can I resign from human civilization? I don't mind being sentient, most of the time, but what we DO with that sentience is appalling.

[*] Kindly do not fill my mailbox with claims that you're a man who doesn't hate gay men or that "all men" "don't". I'm trying to talk in generalities about manhood, OK?
