I'm dangerously close to putting my foot down and saying if I can't take the Patent Agent exam before Christmas, I'll do it after school lets out, regardless of the impact on my job situation for next summer. My finances are just so much up in the air it hurts, and I've been hedging.
Because if I put my foot down, that's a glorious two to three weeks of editing and adding a whole section to the novel, and room for some brand new work. Which would mean finishing the Elvis alien impersonator story, writing something that from this distance smells like a novelette or novella about alien abduction, and rewriting the /Ghost of the Old Theatre/ into something just that much better that won't get rejected next time.
And I found that a three week amount of time seems very conducive to churning out a lot of material, or it did earlier this year.
